American Legion To Sponsor Game At Field House

Two of the most colorful teams in the National Basketball Association—the Philadelphia Warriors and the Syracuse Nats will play an exhibition game at the Kate Walton Field House on Friday, Oct. 17. The contest will be sponsored by Kingston Post American Legion and replaces the annual American Legion Ball as fund raising project. Plans for the game were announced today by Andrew Murphy III. Both teams have guaranteed the appearance of the regular NBA lineups. Philadelphia will also show a new coach in Al Cervi, former dynamic leader of the Nats and one of the all-time great pro basketball coaches. Cervi recently signed a 2-year contract with the Warriors. He succeeds George Senesky, who piloted the Warriors against the Rochester Royals in a Legion exhibition here last year. Appearing with the Warriors will be, among others the fabulous Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, Woody Sauldsberry, Neil Johnston and others. Syracuse will show two great names in Dolf Schayes, the all-time NBA scoring leader, Ed Conlin and others. Further details will be announced later.
